GROAN

I am not fond of
Enforced jollity.
Jokes hang in the air
With their expectant pause -
The space where I am supposed
to
laugh
now.
My laughter,
usually throaty
& infectious
regularly
rises
unbidden
in inappropriate
circumstances,
lies
stifled and
unresponsive
to humour
that harbours
an
anticipated
outcome.
Sadly, your
comedic efforts
were
wasted on me -
your
captive
audience
of
one.

  6. Your poems are so emotional and have so much depth. Amazing and such a joy (or not, depending on the theme) to read. You have the gift of transporting me into the world about which you write and that must be the aim of any writer. Wonderful x
