I, WHO COULD NEVER SEE YOU

You, who were never angry, seethed silently.
You, who never raised your voice, screamed deafeningly.
You, who never minded, objected strongly.
You, who were gently disposed, knife-twisted artfully.
You, who fed us all, poisoned.
You, who had endless patience, were always too busy.
You, who were so attentive, failed to notice.

('Mother & Child', oil painting by Andrea Tyrimos, www.andreatyrimos.com)
I would like to thank the artist for her kind permission to use her beautiful painting. You are most generous Andrea.

  7. Benign neglect .... Something I hope to outwit, escape and rarely, if ever, commit. Motherhood can be a paradox.

  17. In answer to your question: I started with water-soluble pastels to give the colours and then overlaid with acrylic paint applied through a stencil. I then moved the stencil slightly and applied another colour of paint over it to give a 3D effect. J x

  23. your quote reflects my attitude to life and art..I practise practise practise like you do with your astounding poetry 'Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand - and melting like a snowflake' ~ Marie Beyon Ray. Thanks as ever for your great comments

  24. Pen, thank you for the encouraging comments. I wish I lived closer so you could attend. I am now developing an artist's journal class to teach at the local recreation center. Amazing how all of this is happening at once! I guess the universe just said "It's time."

Your poetry is SO GOOD. Are you still doing art, too?

  27. The portrait, so tender. The poem, so bluntly honest, it cut right to the bone. My mom started out like the image and ended up like your words. Amazing. Startling. Brilliant. Peace, Amy
