Late Fragment (by Raymond Carver)

And did you get what you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself beloved on the earth.

This was apparently written the day before Carver's death but even before I knew how poignant this piece was, I was very moved by it. Knowing that only makes it more so.
How lovely, at the end of your life, to feel yourself beloved.

Today I am going to attempt to make a 'Late Fragment' of my own to post later on.
