ARTISTS TRADING CLUB - PEELED PAINT TECHNIQUE
This months challenge at the Artists Trading Club is to use the peeled paint technique as described on their blog. Its a great fun technique but it required 'waiting to dry' time - never a favourite with me! I had quite a few goes at this before I was happy with it and then, once I'd produced a background I liked, I ruined it all (several times) before I found an image that I felt worked. The peeled-paint technique gives you a tattered and worn finish that has two layers of colour and leant itself nicely to a vintage image. I chose this family portrait as I come from a photographic family myself. I kinda feel that its a bit simplistic as its just plain stamped in black but, I'm hoping as the background is varied, the stamping can stand alone. What do you think? I really like the fact it looks like its been kicking around in the attic for a while.

love peeling paint and patina, this looks great!
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a go first! I've got the vaseline, I've just got to take the plunge and have a go. Yours has turned out great, so you've given me the kick up the bottom to get on with it! Your ATC really does look like it's been stored away in a dry dusty place for many many years, I really like it. Are you going to do the others the same, with a similar theme or is each one going to be different?
ReplyDeleteThank you all! I've done them all the same so far Jo, but after my initial faffing about, I enjoyed myself, so that could change before they're due. It was quite tricky for me to find a stamp that worked but there were one or two that might lend themselves quite nicely. Looking forward to seeing what you make Jo - they're going to be fab x
ReplyDeletesuper technique & image - they look so solemn ! I hate wating for things to dry - I was trying to get double sided tape to stick on wet card earlier ! Maybe Pennys aren't known for their patience - mind you Penelope was waiting patiently for a very long time for her Odysseus to return from his voyage ( must be why I married a sailor ! )
ReplyDeleteHey Penny, Your peeled paint technique is fabulous. Love the image you chose and the black and white work so well with it. Well done!
ReplyDeleteexcellent work really like this one
ReplyDeletei find it very appealing. a-peeling? :)
ReplyDeleteBeautifull work! Super technique!
ReplyDeleteNICE!
ReplyDeleteI love this look too.. lol @ kicked around the attic.. I want almost everything i make to look like its been kicked around the attic... I must find their blog and have a look at how to do this..
I am also very crap at "waiting to dry" time though lol
It's very nice the way it is, not at all simplistic!
ReplyDeleteThis is just magic wow x
ReplyDeletewhat an achievement I thought it was a cutting from an old paper until I read it.
I tried mine last night ...disaster... was very good waited for the paint to dry without a problem...made some ATC's in between the stages... however got carried away and forgot to wipe off the 1st lot of Vaseline before adding 2nd layer of paint.. what JOB i am having trying to remove the paint etc... think I will be trying again over the weekend.
have a good weekend and well done on the challenge.

I am not good about the waiting when I want to try something new either! This looks great, I how very old it looks. Good for you for persevering - cheers!

Often simple is best, I find. The black stamping really shows off the peeled paint technique.
