MY DEAR OLD DAD
We have had another scare with my Dear Old Dad. His nine lives surely can't last forever? We've been so lucky so far. Last night he had another heart attack and was rushed into hospital. We had an anxious night but this morning the news is promising. He's had his 5th stent fitted and is stable. We can't visit until this afternoon and none of us will really breathe a sigh of relief until we see him for ourselves but, its a lot better now than it was at 3am. This photograph is of my Mum & Dad in their early years. Its one of my favourite family photos. My father took this photograph himself.... in his left hand, he is holding a lead to enable him to fire the shutter from a distance. My Dad ... the ever consumate professional photographer had just returned from photographing an event in central London last night when he had his heart attack. He has always refused to be beaten by his age or his health and continues doing the thing he loves most - taking photographs. Hats off to him. After all, he's only 84.

Oh what a lovely outlook he has on life, credit to him. The photo is an absolute treasure and the fact he took it himself adds to it. Give him a big hug this afternoon. x

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo, Pen. I am so sorry to hear about your poor Dad, what a worrying time for you and your family. Keeping you in my thoughts and sending love, xxx
ReplyDeleteOh Penny, I'm totally with you on this.
ReplyDeleteMy Dad- 84, collapsed when I was visiting in Maine and was hospitalized for weeks. He recovers and comes to visit in Arizona the next spring and just 4 hours before we drive to the airport to send him and my mom home he has a heart attack in my house. They wouldn't let him go home until he had a quadruple bypass. It was a blessing in a way to be able to take care of my mom in my own home while he was hospitalized for a month in a warm place. And I thought it was significant that he was having his episodes when I was around out of his 5 kids. We were very close. He's still kicking a year later. He just keeps on bouncing back! I wish the same for your Pop.
I love the photo and wish him the best care and recovery. i hope you get to be near him lots. Take care of yourself too!
xoxo Kim

ReplyDeleteI am holding your dad and your family in my heart and prayers...
ReplyDeletePenny, you and the family are in my thoughts and prayers too. Glad to hear things are on the upside today. x x
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for this frightening experience Penny - my dad has had a few heart attacks and two multiple bypass surgeries (30 years between the 1st and 2nd) It is so dramatic to witness heart trauma, so I can empathize with you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad. Yes, he can have 9 lives +, at 84, 94, 104!!! with today's medicine and following life style changes, and following his bliss through photography anything is possible. Recently my dad's check ups all were fantastic, and during an exam his doc said, at 77 he had the flexibility of a 35 year old :) Blessings to you and your family. xo
ReplyDeletewhat a treasure of a photo!! i really hope and pray your dad can have some more good years...

Oh bless him! So glad he's ok, must be such a worry for you. The old photo is fantastic and hard to believe he took it himself - what a clever man.
ReplyDeleteYou paint such a wonderful picture of your Dad. It is obviously his willpower and refusal to grow old that keeps him going. I really enjoy your writing for which you have a real gift.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comments on my blog. They are very much appreciated and the best thing is that they brought me to your blog to enjoy all the goodies you have here.
